Historic St. Luke's Church

14477 Benns Church Blvd., Smithfield

(757) 357-3367

Historic Saint Luke's Church, circa 1632, is located four miles south of Smithfield's Historic District. It is the oldest existing church of English foundation, circa 1632, St. Luke’s is this country’s only surviving original brick Gothic church. The Jacobean interior, altar dressings and stained glass windows create just the right setting for a romantic and unique ceremony.

There are many unique wedding and romance opportunities awaiting you in Smithfield.  For a traditional wedding ceremony, we have quite a number of historic churches of all denominations, many dating back to the early 1800's.  Historic St. Luke's Church (1632), buffeted by large shady trees, is the nation's oldest Gothic church of English foundation.  Its altar dressings and stained glass windows enhance the ambience of tradition and history.  Christ Episcopal Church is the oldest church in the Historic District of Smithfield, dating back to 1831, and the only Episcopal Church in Isle of Wight County.

For those who desire a water theme, have your ceremony on the deck of your boat or the dock at the Smithfield Station with a reception featuring a seafood menu following.  Located on a farm with crops of cotton and corn, the Isle of Wight Wedding Chapel offers couples a country setting either inside the Chapel itself or outside in the "Rainforest Gazebo".  Here you are treated like family and your wedding ideas become reality.

Renew your vows outdoors with a ceremony along Hayden's Lane in the Historic District.  Hayden's Lane, originally the driveway to Hayden Hall, has been made into an attractive mid-town park by the Garden Department of the local Woman's Club and provides a floral background for any occasion.  Alternatively, The Smithfield Inn's Gazebo and garden may be the ideal location for your ceremony.  Here the happy couple could exchange vows and friends and family in attendance may then segue into a reception on the grounds. The Mansion on Main is also available for a shower, wedding or small intimate reception in a lovely historic setting.

The Smithfield Center is available for group gatherings. Name your theme and their state-of-the-art kitchen, or your caterer of choice, will get to work to make sure this is the happiest day of your life! Visit their website at www.smithfieldcenter.com.

For a less formal wedding, turn your reception into an outdoor barbecue in a nearby park or plantation! Smithfield is the "Ham Capital of the World", so where else would you expect a pig pickin'?
